WORKING ON THE IMPOSTER SYNDROME
Have you ever felt that you haven't earned your accomplishments?
I have.
I didn't know then what I know now.
Up to 82% of people suffer from Imposter syndrome.
And it is a very dangerous threat to our career, and to reach our potentials in life.
The more we become an expert the more we feel like an imposter.
We are doubting ourselves.
The Strategy
Learn the fact: from the statistic, 82% of people suffer from Imposter Syndrome.
It is not a personal shortcoming. It is a societal norm.
So next time, think that 8/10 people in a room feel (or have felt) similarly.
The Action Steps
I have been struggling with imposter syndrome for years.
However I have been learning how to overcome it.
Here's how:
1. Write down your wins.
We tend to overlook our progress. So start to write down your wins (strong performances, big changes in your life/career, new learning, compliments, etc.)
Review your wins regularly.
And celebrate them.
See how far you have come and how capable you are.
2. Let go of perfectionism.
We are influenced by the volume of work produced.
But 70% of the work will be mediocre, 20% will be terrible, 10% will be amazing.
If you are avoiding failure, you are avoiding success.
3. Adopt a growth mindset.
It is the belief that you can improve your abilities through dedication and hard work.
Know this:
Everything surrounding you right now was built by people no smarter than you.
The creators went from idea to execution and continued to learn along the way.
And so can you.
I hope this is useful.
Remember, your daily actions shape your identity and environment.
Change is possible
Much love,
Paolo
